USP is the highest-placed Brazilian university in employability rankings

The University of São Paulo (USP) was the highest-placed Latin American institution in the Global University Employability Ranking 2017, published on November 16. The list was based on interviews with directors and recruitment managers from large companies in 22 countries, including Brazil. The questions were related to the skills that young professionals need in order to adapt to the digital revolution that is expected to occur over the coming decades, and which institutions best prepare their students in this regard. The list ranked 150 higher education institutions in total, with USP in 75th, ahead of prestigious universities such as the University of Edinburgh, UK, and the University of California, San Diego. This is the third year that the ranking has been published by British magazine Times Higher Education. In 2016, USP ranked 71st. Despite falling four places, the university remains the only Brazilian institution on the list and the highest-placed Latin American university. The top positions were awarded to the California Institute of Technology (Caltech), Harvard University, and Columbia University, all from the US. USP also leads Latin America in two other indices: the World University Ranking 2017–2018 and the World Reputation Ranking.
