In January, the University of São Paulo (USP) signed an agreement with the Shenzhen University in China to establish an innovation-oriented research center. The aim is to bring Brazilian and Chinese researchers together through collaborative research, professor exchanges, joint graduate programs, and postdoctoral fellowships. Another ambition of the new center is to promote business initiatives, including the creation of a platform for Brazilian and Chinese companies to exchange information and opportunities. The focus will be on areas such as digital agriculture, bioeconomy, smart cities, artificial intelligence, renewable energy, and climate change. The partnership between USP and the Chinese institution was established within the scope of the Belt and Road Research Institute for International Cooperation and Development, part of the Belt and Road Initiative launched by the Chinese government to boost international trade connections. The new center will be based in the Inova USP building in São Paulo.
