A landscape in an egg

This turtle egg (which appears blue in the scanning electron microscopy image above) was buried in clay (ocher) eighty million years ago. A group led by paleontologist Sérgio Alex Azevedo, from the National Museum of Rio de Janeiro, was able to identify the fossil by analyzing its microstructure.
