ECNP Preclinical Network Data

An award for studies with negative results

The European College of Neuropsychopharmacology (ECNP) has announced an award that aims to encourage the publication of negative results in neuroscience research—studies whose results do not confirm the hypotheses tested. The winner of the ECNP Preclinical Network Data Prize will receive €10,000. For Thomas Steckler, chair of the ECNP Preclinical Data Forum, negative results are less likely to be published because they are often believed to generate less value for researchers, institutions, and scientific journals. “However, unpublished data is effectively a waste of valuable real and human capital, particularly in the face of the reproducibility of clinical trials,” explains Steckler on the organization’s website. Nominations for the award are open until June 30, 2018.
