Brazil won 12 awards at the latest International Science and Engineering Fair, which has been held in the United States since 1950. The event took place May 8-13, 2016 in Arizona, attended by 1,700 students from 77 countries. The Brazilian delegation submitted 18 projects, nine of which were selected at the 14th Brazil Science and Engineering Fair (Febrace) in São Paulo. “This was the first time that Brazilian students won so many prizes at this event. Science fairs encourage future researchers,” says Roseli de Deus Lopes, who serves as Febrace coordinator. Students from Rio Grande do Sul State, João Vitor Kingeski Ferri and Maria Eduarda Santos de Almeida, submitted one of the winning projects, which showed how to use every part of the juçara palm tree.
