FLATICONOnline access to a number of scientific articles has been blocked in China. At the request of the Chinese government, the Springer Nature publishing group has suspended access to at least 1,000 scientific articles in China. According to British newspaper the Financial Times, the removed articles, which were originally published in the Journal of Chinese Political Science and International Politics, contained keywords that are considered politically sensitive in China, such as “Taiwan,” “Tibet,” and “cultural revolution.” A statement released by Springer Nature acknowledged that “this action is deeply regrettable, but has been taken to prevent a much greater impact on our customers and authors.” The decision made by the group, which owns Nature and Scientific American, comes two months after the Cambridge University Press (CUP) removed access to more than 300 articles in China at the request of the authorities.
