010-011_Estratégias_237-AA LÉO RAMOS | ANTONIO SCARPINETTI - ASCOM - UNICAMP | EDUARDO CESAR | ARQUIVO PESSOALOn October 6, 2015, Governor Geraldo Alckmin of São Paulo State reappointed José Arana Varela to the position of Chief Executive Officer of the FAPESP Executive Board. Alckmin also appointed three new members to the FAPESP Board of Trustees: Carmino Antonio de Souza, João Fernando Gomes de Oliveira and Pedro Wongtschowski.

José Arana Varela is a physicist and full professor at the Chemistry Institute of São Paulo Sate University (Unesp), Araraquara campus. Varela has a PhD in Ceramic Materials from the University of Washington. He is a fellow of the American Ceramic Society and member of the Materials Research Society in the United States. He served as FAPESP CEO from 2012 to February 2015 and was on the FAPESP Board of Trustees from 2004 to 2010.

Carmino Antonio de Souza, health secretary for the city of Campinas, is full professor in the Medical Clinic Department of the School of Medical Sciences, University of Campinas (FCM/Unicamp). He holds a PhD from Unicamp, where he is an associate professor. His postdoctoral fellowship was at the University of Genoa in Italy. His fields of research are oncohematology and marrow transplants.

João Fernando Gomes de Oliveira is a mechanical engineer and full professor at the São Carlos School of Engineering at the University of São Paulo (EESC-USP). Souza’s postdoctoral work was at the University of California, Berkeley. He was CEO of the São Paulo Institute for Technological Research (IPT) and CEO of the Brazilian Research Corporation for Industrial Research and Innovation (Embrapii).

edro Wongtschowski is a chemical engineer with a master’s degree and PhD in engineering from the Polytechnic School/USP. He chairs the Boards of Directors of the Brazilian Center for Research in Energy and Materials (CNPEM) and Embrapii, and is on the Board of Trustees of the National Association for Research and Development of Innovative Companies (Anpei). He was executive vice president of Oxiteno and president of Ultrapar.
