Carlos Henrique de Brito Cruz and Joaquim José de Camargo Engler were re-appointed to the posts of science director and administrative director of FAPESP’s Executive Board for a new three-year term of office. The appointments were made by São Paulo Governor Geraldo Alckmin. Brito Cruz, a professor at the Gleb Wataghin Physics Institute of the University of Campinas (Unicamp), has been science director of FAPESP since 2005. He received his undergraduate degree in electronic engineering from the Technological Institute of Aeronautics (ITA) and his master’s degree (1980) and doctorate (1983) in science, both from Unicamp. He was the director of the Gleb Wataghin Physics Institute and dean of research at Unicamp. From 2002 to 2005, he served as president of Unicamp and, from 1996 to 2002, as president of FAPESP. Engler has been FAPESP’s administrative director since 1993. He received his undergraduate degree in agronomic engineering from the Luiz de Queiroz College of Agriculture at USP (Esalq/USP) and is a full professor at Esalq’s Department of Economics, Administration, and Sociology, where he formerly served as director. He earned a doctorate in agronomy from Esalq and a master’s of science and doctorate in agricultural economics from Ohio State University. He was coordinator of general administration at USP, coordinator and mayor of the USP campus in Piracicaba, director of the Center for Nuclear Energy in Agriculture at USP (CENA/USP), and chief of staff to the president of USP.
