FAPESP President reappointed for second term

São Paulo State Governor João Doria, has reappointed physician Marco Antonio Zago as president of the FAPESP Board of Trustees and thus president of the Foundation. The announcement was published in the Official Gazette of the State of São Paulo on September 18. Zago was one of three names on a list drawn up by the Board of Trustees and submitted to the governor on August 25 . Also named were civil engineer Liedi Bariani Bernucci, currently a FAPESP board member, and chemist Ronaldo Aloise Pilli, who is a board member and vice president. Zago has been FAPESP president since October 2018. With a degree from the Ribeirão Preto School of Medicine (FMRP) at the University of São Paulo (USP), he has previously served president of the Brazilian National Council for Scientific and Technological Development (CNPq) and dean of research and dean of USP. He was also head of the Ribeirão Preto Cell Therapy Center (CTC), which is one of FAPESP’s Research, Innovation, and Dissemination Centers (CEPIDs), and was clinical director at the Ribeirão Preto Hospital de Clinicas.
