INCT in São Paulo

More institutes for the advancement of science

Nine additional National Science and Technology Institutes/INCT have recently been created in the State of São Paulo. The following fields were focused on:  Translational Neuroscience, Complex Fluids, Materials in Nanotechnology Sciences, Photonics Applied to Cell Biology, Advanced Analytical Technologies, Environmental Studies, Complex Functional Materials, Bioanalytics and the Study of Space.  As a result, there are now 44 research topic networks that have been created by means of the National Science and Technology Institutes Program, the objective of which is to establish partnerships between researchers from various states and foster the advancement of knowledge in fields that are considered as being vital for the development of the country or that are on the frontiers of fields of knowledge in which national research has obtained a high performance.  This is an initiative of the Ministry of Science and Technology/ MCT, through the Conselho Nacional de Desenvolvimento Científico e Tecnológico/CNPq national council for scientific and technological development.  In São Paulo the Ministry and the CNPq partner with FAPESP.  This partnership has doubled the amount of federal government funds invested in institutions from the State of São Paulo.
