A collection on the Brazilian integralist movement, a variant of fascism, was donated to the University of Campinas (Unicamp) and will be available to researchers and students. The donation was made by Helgio Trindade, former president of the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS). The collection consists of books, interviews recorded on cassette tapes by the donor with former leaders and militants of Brazilian Integralist Action (AIB), and collections of newspapers and documents. The items will be incorporated into the Edgard Leuenroth Archives (AEL) at Unicamp, and will be named the Coleção Helgio Trindade: Ação Integralista Brasileira e Fascismo Internacional (Helgio Trindade Collection: Brazilian Integralist Action and International Fascism). Trindade is considered a pioneer in research on the topic and is the author of the book entitled Integralismo: O fascismo brasileiro da década de 30 (Integralism: Brazilian Fascism in the 1930s), a classic in Brazil, and the outcome of his doctorate defended in 1971 at the Sorbonne in Paris. “I knew there was a reference archive at Unicamp. Integralism is a São Paulo theme, so what better place to have it be than in São Paulo,” Trindade tells the Unicamp news agency. “It is an honor to receive this donation because it comes from the greatest Brazilian scholar on this topic. The material is highly relevant to the AEL,” says Unicamp Coordinator General Alvaro Penteado Crósta.
