daniel buenoAt a meeting held on December 17, 2013, FAPESP’s Executive Board approved four-month maternity leaves for researchers who hold full-time grants from the Foundation in the categories of master’s, doctorate, post-doctorate, young investigator, science journalism, and technical training. The new rule has already gone into effect, and interested grant recipients may apply for the benefit through FAPESP’s Support, Information and Communication Management Office (GAIC). The request must be accompanied by medical documentation. Payment will continue through the duration of the leave, and on the date of the grant’s scheduled termination, it will be extended by four months. “FAPESP had been considering this question for some time, as we’d received some requests in this regard,” said Joaquim José de Camargo Engler, administrative director. “The Office of the Scientific Director analyzed the matter and the Executive Board approved the proposal to implement the leave,” said Engler.
