New crop of CNPq researchers emeriti

This year, ten researchers were awarded the title of researcher emeritus by the Brazilian National Council for Scientific and Technological Development (CNPq) in recognition of their scientific or technological achievements and distinction in the scientific community. The honor was awarded to electronic engineer, University of Campinas (UNICAMP) professor, and Chairman of the FAPESP Executive Board Carlos Américo Pacheco, and to Guilherme Ary Plonski, chemical and mathematical engineer and director of the Institute for Advanced Studies (IEA) at the University of São Paulo (USP). José Galizia Tundisi, an ecologist and retired professor at USP, received the honor in the field of ecosystems, while Adelaide Faljoni-Alario, a chemist from the Federal University of ABC (UFABC) was recognized for her work in biochemistry. Ana Maria Giulietti Harley and Erney Plessmann de Camargo, both from USP, were honored in botany and parasitology respectively. In anthropology, the title was awarded to Josildeth Gomes Consorte, from the Pontifical Catholic University of São Paulo (PUC-SP), and in education it was bestowed upon Magda Becker Soares, from the Federal University of Minas Gerais (UFMG). Civil engineer Djairo Guedes Figueiredo and chemist Fernando Galembeck, retired professors from UNICAMP, became researchers emeritus in mathematics and chemistry.
