The Nobel Foundation announced that it was building new headquarters on the Blasieholmen Peninsula in central Stockholm, Sweden. With a budget of US$146 million, the facility as designed by British architect David Chipperfield should be ready in 2019.  The building will house the foundation museum and an auditorium, which will serve as the site of the annual Nobel Prize ceremony. The prize was established 114 years ago and is science’s highest honor. With a total area of 25,000 square meters, the building will be open to visitors and will host cultural and educational programs and house a library. One of the proposals is to establish partnerships with schools in the region and offer space to educators for extracurricular activities. There will also be scientific exhibits. “We will draw on the experience of the Nobel Museum in Stockholm to create something that is entirely new and interactive. There will be permanent exhibits dedicated to the disciplines the prize covers, as well as short-term exhibits on current events,” the foundation reports in a press release. Another proposal calls for holding symposiums and conferences where scientists from the four corners of the world could meet.
