New Director for the CNPEM

Carlos Américo Pacheco, an engineer, left his post as chancellor of the Technological Institute of Aeronautics (ITA) in São José dos Campos (SP) to take over as general director of the Brazilian Center for Research in Energy and Materials (CNPEM), in Campinas, an organization affiliated with the Ministry of Science, Technology, and Innovation (MCTI) whose members include the national laboratories of Synchrotron Light (LNLS), Biosciences (LNBio), Bioethanol Science and Technology (CTBE), and Nanotechnology (LNNano). Holder of a PhD in Economic Science from the University of Campinas (Unicamp), Américo Pacheco did post-doctoral work at Columbia University in the United States, was executive secretary of MCTI between 1999 and 2002, and served as assistant secretary of the São Paulo State Department of Economic Development in 2007.
