New FAPESP executive director

Governor Tarcísio de Freitas recently appointed physicist Carlos Frederico de Oliveira Graeff as the new chief executive officer of FAPESP’s Executive Board, for a three-year term. Graeff replaces economist Carlos Américo Pacheco, from the University of Campinas (UNICAMP). The announcement was published in the Official Gazette of the State of São Paulo on August 27. Graeff is a professor in the Department of Physics of the School of Sciences at São Paulo State University (UNESP), Bauru campus, where he also served as dean of research. Over his career, he has been a member of the Brazilian Federal Agency for Support and Evaluation of Graduate Education (CAPES), general coordinator of strategic programs and infrastructure for FAPESP’s scientific board, head of higher education for the São Paulo State Department of Science, Technology, and Innovation, and a member of the board of directors at the Institute of Technological Research (IPT). He is a member of the Royal Society of Chemistry and the São Paulo State Academy of Sciences (ACIESP) and has been a visiting researcher at institutions in various countries, including Switzerland, China, and Germany.
