In a decree officially published on December 14, São Paulo State Governor João Doria appointed two new members and reappointed a third to the FAPESP Board of Trustees for a six-year period. The new appointees are Thelma Krug, a mathematics researcher at the Brazilian National Institute for Space Research (INPE) and one of the vice presidents of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), and Dimas Tadeu Covas, a hematologist and professor at the Ribeirão Preto School of Medicine (FMRP) of the University of São Paulo (USP) and president of the Butantan Institute. Pedro Wongtschowski, a chemical engineer, chairman of the Board of Directors at Ultrapar Participações, and head of the Mobilization for Business Innovation (MEI) at the Brazilian National Confederation of Industry (CNI), was reappointed after his previous term ended in October 2021. Of the 12 seats on the board, three had been vacant for two months after the terms of Wongtschowski, Carmino de Souza, and João Fernando Gomes de Oliveira ended.
