Physicist Luiz Nunes de Oliveira stepped down from his role as scientific coordinator of Pesquisa FAPESP in June. A professor at the Institute of Physics of São Carlos of the University of São Paulo (IFSC-USP), he held the position for nearly three years. The role is always filled by an experienced researcher appointed by FAPESP, serving as a link between the editorial team and the Executive Board of the foundation, with which the magazine is affiliated. The scientific coordinator reviews articles prior to publication and may suggest changes to improve the accuracy of the information. Nunes is succeeded by biomedical scientist Luiz Roberto Giorgetti de Britto, a professor at USP’s Institute of Biomedical Sciences (ICB). Britto earned his undergraduate degree in biomedical sciences from the Federal University of São Paulo (UNIFESP), his master’s degree at the University of Campinas (UNICAMP), and his PhD at ICB-USP, where he also served as director from 2005 to 2009. As a researcher, he studies cell communication in the nervous system and neurodegenerative diseases.
