New members to the Brazilian Academy of Sciences

In the annual general meeting held on December 16, 2011, the Brazilian Academy of Sciences (ABC) elected its new full members. Among the 25 chosen, 17 are from São Paulo universities and research institutes. In mathematical sciences, Paolo Piccione, from the University of São Paulo (USP); in physical sciences, Antonio Martins Figueiredo Neto (USP) and Nathan Jacob Berkovits, from Paulista State University (Unesp); in chemical sciences, Luiz Carlos Dias, from the State University of Campinas (Unicamp), and Vanderlan da Silva Bolzani (Unesp); in earth sciences, Cláudio Riccomini (USP), Icaro Vitorello, from the National Institute of Space Research (Inpe), and José Antonio Marengo Orsini (Inpe); in biological sciences, Fausto Foresti (Unesp); in biomedical sciences, Gilberto de Nucci, Maria Júlia Manso Alves and Regina Pekelmann Markus (all from USP); in health sciences, Fernando Cendes (Unicamp) and Francisco Rafael Martins Laurindo (USP); in engineering sciences, João Fernando Gomes de Oliveira, from the Institute of Technological Research (IPT), and Victor Carlos Pandolfelli, from the Federal University of São Carlos (UFScar); and in social sciences, Bolivar Lamounier, from Augurium Consultoria.
