Petrobras has signed a cooperation agreement with French-American company Schlumberger, which provides technology to the oil and gas industry; the object of the agreement is joint research projects for the exploitation of oil in the pre-salt layer. Four projects will be conducted, focusing on technologies to improve the characterization of deep water reservoirs; analysis of seismic data; nuclear magnetic resonance analysis; and analysis of electrochemical sensors. Six other projects are still at the negotiation phase. The portfolio of projects established as a result of the agreement between the two companies will result in the implementation, in 2010, of Schlumberger’s research center on Ilha do Fundão, in the State of Rio de Janeiro, where Petrobras’ technical research center is located.
