The Chemical Abstracts Service (CAS), a division of the American Chemistry Society, is in charge of indexing scientific information. On November 22, 2016, it held a forum in São Paulo to discuss strategies to foster innovation in the Brazilian business sector. The event presented a set of tools that CAS developed to assist patent offices, companies, research organizations and universities in developing new products and technologies and protecting their intellectual property. One of these tools is PatentPak. The platform provides immediate access to patent files in the field of chemistry from 31 of the largest intellectual property registration offices in the world, making it easier to locate substances, reactions, records and other information. Another tool is SciFinder, which offers a service that searches for molecules described in articles published in scientific periodicals indexed by the CAS. “We hope to expand our presence in Brazil as a source of information for scientific research on chemical substances and to stimulate research and innovation in the business sector,” says Manuel Guzman, president of CAS.
