July 2 is an important festive date in Salvador, Bahia: it is the day that Portuguese troops abandoned Brazil in 1823, after intense public pressure that included the participation of Indigenous people and freed and enslaved Black people. The event is described in one of the records available on Independências-memórias, a recently opened online repository with roughly 16,000 documents (including books, articles, theses, and dissertations) on the history of Brazil from 1808 to 1831 made freely available to the public. The complete references can be searched by author, title, keywords, year, or publication. Developed by a team of researchers and students from the University of São Paulo (USP) and the Federal University of São Paulo (UNIFESP) since 2013, independencias-memorias.com.br also features an atlas of 29 cities important to the debate on independence in Brazilian capitals. In addition to dates, there is a tab that includes important people and historical monuments.
