The Clinton government declared Aids to be a potential threat to national security and is going to destine US$ 245 millions in the fiscal year 2001 to combat the disease in other countries. The National Security Council, which normally deals with threats of war and terrorism, will have the responsibility of drawing up an international strategy for Aids, states Nature. The decision is based on a report released last year, which concluded that the sickness could cause political instability in Africa, Asia and in the former countries of the Soviet Union.
