Bees’ sense of smell

Bees detect smells with their antennae. Chemical signals that correspond to smells in the environment activate neurons arranged in bundles within the antennae. Through this pathway, these stimuli form sphere-like clusters of neurons, the olfactory glomeruli, which specialize in interpreting this type of information. The biologist Ana Carolina Roselino examines in detail the structure’s anatomy to understand how the uruçu stingless bees find flowers.
