The biological diversity of the cerrado was the theme of the conferences on May 16th, in São Paulo. The speakers were Vanderlan Bolzani, professor at the Paulista State University (Unesp) at Araraquara and one of the coordinators of the Biota-FAPESP Program, and Biologist Vânia Regina Pivello, from the São Paulo University (USP).
According to Vanderlan, the substances produced by the cerrado plants can also be useful to humans. She refers to compounds which may be the basis for new drugs.
