The physicist Nilson Dias Vieira Júnior, of the Energy and Nuclear Research Institute (IPEN), was appointed by the state governor Mário Covas to be a member of the Board of FAPESP, for a six-year term of office. The researcher was one of the names voted at the election of the representative of official and private higher education and research bodies.
