In August, philosopher Luiz Henrique Lopes dos Santos left his position as scientific coordinator at Pesquisa FAPESP, which he held since 2001. Physicist Luiz Nunes de Oliveira, a professor at the São Carlos Institute of Physics (IFSC) of the University of São Paulo (USP) took his place. Santos, a scholar of the philosophy of logic and history of philosophy earned his undergraduate degree and PhD from USP’s School of Philosophy, Languages and Literature, and Human Sciences (FFLCH), where he is now a senior professor. He is also a senior visiting professor on the Logic and Metaphysics Postgraduate Program at the Federal University of Rio Janeiro (UFRJ) and assistant coordinator of FAPESP’s Board for Scientific Dissemination and Research Ethics and Integrity. Nunes has a degree from IFSC and a PhD from Cornell University, as well as postdoctoral fellowships at the University of California, Santa Barbara, and Ohio State University, all three in the USA. As a researcher, he studies correlations in electronic systems and density functional theory. He was dean of research at USP from 2002 to 2005 and assistant coordinator at FAPESP from 1993 to 2001 and 2017 to 2020.
