New research institute

On November 26, 2012 the Research Institute at the Santa Casa de Misericórdia of São Paulo opened its doors. The institute, located in downtown São Paulo, is a six-story building, three of which are occupied by cell culture, virology, histology and bioinformatics laboratories, built and furnished with equipment purchased largely with FAPESP funding. One of the institute’s objectives is to centralize the research projects conducted by physicians, professors, and graduate students of almost every clinical and surgical field in laboratories across the many departments of the Central Hospital and the School of Medical Sciences of the Santa Casa. “The Santa Casa has many researchers whose work is dispersed all over the institution. Opening the new research institute building will allow them to be brought together in a single place, where they will be able to meet and have more intensive discussions about collaborating on research projects,” said Carlos Alberto Longui, scientific coordinator of the Research Institute at the Santa Casa of São Paulo, to Agência FAPESP.
