At the end of August, American pharmaceutical company Pfizer and German biotechnology company BioNTech announced an agreement for their mRNA-based COVID-19 vaccine to be produced in Brazil by Eurofarma from 2022. The partnership will aim to produce in excess of 100 million doses of the vaccine per year, which will be distributed exclusively across Latin America. In July, Pfizer and BioNTech signed a similar but more limited agreement with South Africa’s Biovac, which will start partially manufacturing and distributing the vaccine in Africa next year.
